First off let me say that I am a James Bond fan. I own and have seen every one of the movies. So as you can imagine I've been waiting a while for the new Bond movie.
This one didn't quite live up to the hype though. I will say that it has some great action scenes and some good fights. There is a scene where Bond and one of the bad guys crash through a glass ceiling and land on scaffold and continue to fight from there. Also the movie starts out with a pretty good chase in which his Aston Martin gets pretty messed up.
Onto the movie itself. It starts out not long after the events of Casino Royale so Bond is still feeling the weight of his girlfriend's betrayal and death. He decides to go after the people that she worked with and at the same time try to get the people responsible for her death. But of course his higher ups don't think this is a good idea. So Bond goes rogue and decides to take matters into his own hands.
I won't get too much into the plot but there is a man who runs a large corporation and he wants to install a dictator in a country so he can control the oil. The problem I had with this villain is he wasn't as menacing as previous ones in the series. Even when the movies started to get a bit corny you still felt like the villain was a real threat. In this case he just seemed like some guy Bond was chasing after for 2 hours.
Now no Bond movie would be complete without the girl. As usual they picked a girl who is very beautiful. But since Bond hasn't completely gotten over his old flame their relationship never really goes as far as in previous movies. Let's hope by the next movie they can bring him back to his usual womanizing self.
If you are a fan of the Bond series then I say you should definitely see this. But it's not going to rank up there with the best of the best. I will say it was interesting when at one point they killed a character in a way that was a very obvious homage to Goldfinger. I still think Daniel Craig has the potential to be one of the best Bonds but he needs to make sure he doesn't suffer from what happened to Brosnan where a good Bond is hurt by not so good movies.
Lastly I'd like to leave with my list of the Bond actors from favorite to least favorite:
1. Sean Connery
2. Daniel Craig
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. Roger Moore
5. Timothy Dalton
6. George Lazenby
And my top 5 Bond movies (in no particular order):
1. Goldeneye
2. Casino Royale
3. You Only Live Twice
4. The Man With the Golden Gun
5. Goldfinger
My score is 7.5/10.
